Open Source Mac Os Application Designed to Help You Perform Basic Editing Tasks Involving Pdf Files in A Clean and Organized Environment
PDFsam Basic (formerly known as PDF Split and Merge) is a streamlined Mac OS X application designed to help you split, merge, mix, or rotate content included in your PDF documents. The app is based on multiple plug-ins, and you can quickly decide which one you want to employ.
Well organized PDF manipulator featuring multiple capabilities
The PDFsam Basic main window is organized in two main areas: on the left, you can see a list with the integrated plug-ins, while on the right side you get to access the manipulation options. You can also access the Settings panel in the same manner.
Within the PDFsam Basic application, you get to mix, merge/extract, reorder, rotate, and split PDF documents. Note that each plug-in comes with its own settings, and you have to import the documents that will be processed by each plug-in separately.
However, most of the included customization options are self-explanatory, so finding your way around is fairly easy. What’s more, the Visual reorder plug-in enables you to put documents together with simple drag and drop actions.
Versatile PDF manipulator that can help you deal with basic tasks
All in all, PDFsam Basic is a great tool to have around if you need to split a PDF document into multiple chapters, if you want to put together data contained into multiple files, or if you simply want to rearrange PDF pages of the same document. PDF Split and Merge makes dealing with all these tasks fairly straightforward.
On the other hand, if you are looking for more advanced capabilities, such as to encrypt and decrypt PDFs, extracting attachments, or editing the file’s metadata, PDFsam Basic cannot help you.
The PDFsam Enhanced version integrates these functions, but unfortunately, there is no OS X binary available: you will have to compile it from source on your own.
We at AppsForMyPC have tested and used PDFsam Basic and it worked pretty smoothly 🙂 🙂
