Daemon Tools is an application for Mac and Windows that allows you to emulate CD, DVD and Blu-Ray drives. The software is very useful for those who have computers and notebooks that do not have a native reader of these media, running image files without having to install the driver on the PC.

After installing the program in 32-bit or 64-bit, the software creates a new “virtual” CD or DVD drive on your PC or Mac. In this created virtual drive, you can “mount” the downloaded image as if it were a normal disk , without any damage to the performance or reproduction of the files present on the CD / DVD.

It’s like your computer has multiple CD, DVD, HD-DVD, and Blu-Ray inputs to the CPU, though none of them physically exist. This is very useful for any user who needs to create virtual drivers with ease.

To top it all, Daemon Tools supports several image file formats, which makes it even more versatile. Supported formats are: B5T, B6T, BWT, CCD, CDI, CUE, ISO, MDS, NGR, PDI and MDX extension.

Using the program

To use the program just download, select the virtual drive and then choose which disk image should be mounted. Lastly, select the contents of the disc in question on your computer. With just these steps the user can already use the emulator of CD, DVD or Blu-Ray drivers.

To access the menu of the system image files, just right click on the DAEMON icon in the clock tray. After that, you need to position the mouse cursor on “Virtual CD / DVD-Rom” and “Virtual Devices”. Then, the user must select the device and click on “Mount Picture”.

The program has four versions available: Lite, Standard, Advanced, Ultra, and Sync. They can be used in Mac OS X 10.8 or later and in recent versions of Microsoft’s system such as Windows 7, Windows 8 and 8.1 and Windows 10.

Lite

The lite version is free, provided for personal use.ย It has the ability to emulate up to four CD / DVD drivers, with features for compressing images, protecting password files, and managing collections.ย The software can mount images in the formats mdx, mds, mdf, iso, b5t, b6t, bwt, ccd, cdi, bin, cue, ape, flac, nrg, and isz.

Standard

Daemon Tools Pro Standard is paid, but the program can be tested for free for 20 days. It can emulate up to 16 virtual drivers for CD, DVD, HD DVD, and Blu-ray. This version works with all formats already mentioned, being able to mount the images in a virtual drive along with vhd, vmdk, TrueCrypt and ZIP files. With it, you can create predefined profiles, split image files, generate fixed-size VHD images or dynamic expansion, in addition to the functions in Lite.

Advanced

The Pro Advanced version is also paid for and adds several features. It can convert images of all supported formats to MDF / MDS, MDX, and iso; run compressed disk images; open TrueCrypt; record images with RMPS data; among many others. It can even emulate up to 32 DT and SCSI devices, create up to 16 virtual HDD devices, and use four IDE virtual devices.

Ultra

The Ultra version is the most expensive and most complete. Its main feature is the ability to mount not only image files, but also virtual hard disks. This allows you to test the media virtually before you burn them to optical discs.

The Ultra license also has several unique functions, including the “iSCSI Initiator,” which allows you to mount iSCSI targets as disk images using Daemon Tools virtual devices, and simplify working with ODD and HDD. As in Advanced, it can emulate up to 32 SCSI virtual devices and four IDE.

Sync

The newest version of the software is Sync, which allows for cloud storage and joins Android and iOS devices. The app ensures that all files are copied and protected.
