If you’re not satisfied with your standard Windows photo viewer, there are many other free tools out there that are able to enhance the experience of browsing through your image collection. Some are appreciated for features like a user-friendly interface, the ability to recognize many file formats or the few basic editing options that can make photos social-media-ready.

So, how does Tom’s Viewer stand out in this picture?

A lightweight but powerful photo viewing app

First of all, Tom’s Viewer is a very small program and is completely portable. This means that you just have to copy the EXE file on a drive and you can use it on any Windows-running PC without installing anything. This can be very useful if you’re in a hurry and need to view or even quickly modify a few pictures.

The program’s editing capabilities are more than impressive for its size. You can crop photos, rotate them, mirror them, change the color depth, add various Instagram filters (like Amaro, Brooklyn, Hefe, Kelvin, Mayfair, Nashville, Skyline, X Pro2, just to name a few) and use effects like blurring, embossing, noise, inverting colors or extracting an RGB color channel.

Versatile and extremely easy to use

Tom’s Viewer can recognize and open around 200 image file formats, including popular ones like JPG, PNG, GIF, TIFF or PSD. It can’t open many raw image file formats (photo file types that are commonly used by digital cameras), but this can hardly be seen a drawback, since there are so many other helpful features. The interface is minimalistic, so there’s a very small chance that you’ll get lost in the menus.

You can also use the program to take a screenshot of your desktop, a specific website or a YouTube video (although with the latter option you only get the video’s thumbnail). It’s safe to conclude that, even though you didn’t know you needed it, Tom’s Viewer is a resourceful and useful photo viewing and editing app.

We at AppsForMyPC have tested and used Tom’s Viewer and it worked pretty smoothly 🙂 🙂
